The exhibition aims to present a selection of particularly valuable and interesting musical manuscripts and printed books with music, stored within the walls of the Jagiellonian Library. Musical objects were apposed and shown in such a way as to illustrate a chronology of acquisition and growth of the collection as well as to show historical changes in the profile of the amassed collection. It was particularly intended to expose some specific features of the music collection that owes its nature to: 1. a strict, innate connection between the Library and a didactic and a research activity of the university; 2. the notion of the Jagiellonian Library in the Polish tradition, at least from the 19th century, as being a Bibliotheca patria – a homeland library, that was to preserve treasures of Polish national culture; 3. the fact that musical objects stored in the library are of great importance not only for local, but also for European and world’s music culture.
